Public Hearing on Balfour Park/Library Property Sale

---Those interested in the proposed Balfour Park/Library project are encouraged to come to a related Public Hearing scheduled for Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 6:00pm in Council Chambers at Spokane Valley City Hall, 11707 E. Sprague Avenue. The hearing is required as part of the process to declare a 2.82 acre portion of the City-owned property at the northeast corner of Sprague Avenue and Herald Road as “surplus” to the City’s needs so it can be sold to Spokane County Library District (Library District) for a proposed new library.

The sale of the property is part of the finalization of a 2012 agreement made between the City and Library District when the property was acquired for future expansion of Balfour Park. The agreement made an initial 2.5 acres at the southwest corner of the property available for purchase by the Library District, with an option for the Library District to acquire up to one additional acre if needed.

Based on the Spokane Valley Park/Library Conceptual Site Plan that was developed jointly by the City, Library District and community members, an additional .32 acre is needed to construct a new library facility on the site for a total of 2.82 acres to be declared as surplus to the City’s needs.

Community members are encouraged to participate in the Public Hearing and share their comments on the declaration. Those who are interested in commenting but who are not able to attend the meeting may submit written comments until 4:00pm on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 to:
