Public Access to River, Shelley Lake Topic of Open House
SPOKANE VALLEY, WA --- If you’re one of the thousands of people who enjoy spending time in or along the shores of the Spokane River or who live near Shelley Lake, plan to drop by the latest Open House for the City of Spokane Valley’s Shoreline Master Program (SMP) update. Scheduled for Wednesday, January 16 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm in Council Chambers at Spokane Valley City Hall, the event provides the chance to find out more about the proposed Public Access Plan section of the SMP update.
The Public Access Plan section of the SMP update examines existing public access and recreational uses of these shorelines within the city limits of Spokane Valley, and includes recommendations for preserving and/or improving both.
City of Spokane Valley Community Development staff members will be on hand at the Open House to answer questions and share information about the proposed Public Access Plan, which is also the topic of a Public Hearing at the Planning Commission meeting scheduled on Thursday, January 24 at 6:00pm in Council Chambers.
The SMP, which is required under Washington State’s Shoreline Management Act, regulates uses and development within 200 feet of shorelines of the state. In Spokane Valley, those include shorelines of the Spokane River and Shelley Lake.
Copies of the Public Access Plan section of the SMP are available on the city website at www.spokanevalley.org by selecting the Planning & Zoning link on the home page, and then the Long Range Planning link. Copies are also available at Spokane Valley City Hall, which is located at 11707 E. Sprague Avenue, Suite 101.
