The purpose of the Commission is to study and make recommendations to the Mayor and City Council for future planned growth through continued review of the City’s comprehensive land use plan, development regulations, shoreline management, environmental protection, public facilities, capital improvements, and other matters as directed by the City Council. One of their current main concentrations is the Shoreline Management Plan. Qualifications for this position include having an interest in planning, land use, transportation, capital infrastructure, and building and landscape design as evidenced by training, experience, or interest in the City of Spokane Valley. Members of the Commission shall be nominated by the Mayor and confirmed by a majority vote of the City Council. Members are selected without respect to political affiliations and serve without compensation. Members must reside within the city limits of Spokane Valley. The Planning Commission generally meets at 6:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays.

The Planning Commission generally meets at 6:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month, except in the months of November and December, where the Commission only meets the second Thursday. Planning Commission meets in Council Chambers at City Hall, 11707 E. Sprague Avenue, Suite 101.
